Advertising, and only advertising.
Display ads
This site carries display advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisers bid to place ads on our pages through Google’s automated system. We do not choose which ads appear, we do not know in advance which advertisers will bid, and no advertiser contacts us or has any relationship with us.
That is worth spelling out, because it means an insurance company or a brokerage can end up advertising next to an article that recommends against the thing they sell. That is not an oversight. It is how the arrangement is supposed to work.
What advertising money does not buy
No advertiser sees an article before it publishes. No advertiser can request a change to an article, request that one be taken down, or ask that a topic be avoided. No product appears in an article because someone paid for it. No ranking or recommendation on this site is for sale.
If we ever run a sponsored article, it will be labelled as sponsored at the top of the page in plain language, and this page will say that we run them.
Affiliate links
We do not currently use affiliate links. If an article ever contains one, it will be disclosed at the top of that article, and this page will be updated to say so.
We will not put affiliate links on insurance content. The reason this site exists is that most insurance comparison content is lead generation for brokers, and taking a commission on the same decisions would make us the thing we are complaining about.
Ads and your data
Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google’s Ads Settings, and out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. Our Privacy Policy explains what data is collected and by whom.
If this changes
Revenue models change. If ours does, this page changes first, and the change will be dated. What will not change is that the money never gets a say in what an article concludes.
